The Supervisor of Mortgage Back Securities IS Operation will be responsible for managing day-to-day activities of the MBS allocations team.
This individual will develop and implement policies and operating plans focused on increasing the effectiveness of the MBS operational platform while creating strategic partnerships with the MBS portfolio managers in an effort to translate business strategies into MBS operational imperatives. They will evaluate current methods and strategies as well as implement changes and improvements while working with the business, marketing and technology leaders in developing new and/or enhanced processes and products. Will also act as a liaison to external organizations form a technical, regulatory and association point of view.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Represent the organization internally and externally as a subject matter expert in and provide support for and effectively communicate MBS initiatives and goals to staff within the group and related departments
Manage relationships with clients and assure that existing customers of the business are satisfied from an operational perspective helping to ensure retention of their business with Western Asset. Ensure that existing customers internally are satisfied from an operational perspective. Attend to all client requests to make sure that quality and client satisfaction are maintained
Provide broad overall direction to managers and staff to assure synchronized teamwork that accomplishes yearly and quarterly financial and operational goals and objectives
Challenge staff in the department, provide leadership for growth and development of staff and reduce employee turnover. Training and development initiatives will also be needed in the near future
Spearhead special projects and task force assignments. Provide leadership in areas specific to MBS division
Work with portfolio management, product development, systems and/or compliance staff to develop procedures and protocols that support new or enhanced MBS products and services
Anticipate and provide solutions to the most complex business and securities operations problems. Strategize with technology to devise and implement solutions to drive better operational systems and support
Monitor external operational and regulatory guidelines and assure the Firm's adherence to requires securities laws
Competencies:
Seven to fifteen years of MBS operations experience with an emphasis in MBS including more complex MBS products/instruments
Comprehensive knowledge of investment products and services, securities processing, and information systems
A minimum of five years of operations management experience with a well respected financial services buy-side institution
Experience overseeing investment support staff members and mobilizing efforts to support investment management strategies and overall operational needs
Diverse product knowledge coupled with experience in building new product support operations
Strong systems expertise and intuitive approach to technology; excellent command of investment support related application (Autoturn, EPN-Link and InvestOne)
Academic Qualifications (Minimum Requirements):
Equivalent of a B.S. degree in business, accounting, or related field. An MBA, CPA or CFA is a plus.
