The Senior Portfolio Accountant is responsible for all aspects of the accounting function relating to a real estate portfolio consisting of multi-housing, commercial and joint ventured properties. The Senior Portfolio Accountant will be responsible for processing, reviewing, analyzing, and recording all property and portfolio related operating data into financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position reports directly to the Vice President – Controller.
In addition, the position will also require, to collect, verify, analyze, review and report monthly transactions from third party property managers or joint venture partners, ensure adherence to established accounting policies and procedures. Prepare quarterly/annual financial statements including supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP. Work directly with joint venture partners accounting staff and senior management to ensure proper reporting and compliance. Maintain partnership financials statements and capital accounts including all waterfall distribution calculations. Assist external auditors on year-end audits to ensure accuracy and timely delivery of audited financial statements to our clients. Assist external tax accountants with financial workpapers as part of the year end income tax return preparation. Skills & Requirements:
The Senior Portfolio Accountant must be able to work independently, and as part of a team that includes: Asset Management, Information Systems, Valuations, Marketing, Risk Management, and Acquisitions. The position requires the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet reporting deadlines and be very flexible. Computer literacy is essential as many computer systems are used on a daily basis. The employee must also possess financial and analytical skills primarily with real estate operations as well as problem solving skills. The Senior Portfolio Accountant must have strong interpersonal and communication skills to deal with property and portfolio personnel. Minimum of three years real estate or other investment experience preferred, strong accounting skills and knowledge of financial statement preparation are required. Overtime is required during peak reporting periods.
