The job is responsible for leading approximately 8-15 professionals who manage a portfolio of counterparties that require high touch in Fannie Mae. Specifically the counterparties will will include corporate counterparties (for ABS, LIP purchases), large complex financial institutions (including international banks and broker dealers) and other counterparties as needed. The job will be responsible for recruiting and training staff, overseeing the quality of analysis and research, identifying emerging issues, developing tools for use by the team, and managing teams taking appropriate action, and functioning as an industry expert for providing background, experience, and perspective to the team. The Director will practice expert credit management and analysis skills as well as advanced knowledge of models and analytic methods.
Proactively oversee several portfolios of counterparties across the company (including all business areas) for approvals, suspensions, terminations, and escalation of issues including: timely and perceptive analyses, surveillance, and research for risk detection/escalation; develop analytical tools and scorecards to ensure efficient and effective staff use and turnaround times.
Proactively make effective and timely decisions regarding credit limits, approvals, and escalations in line with delegations of authority. Work seamlessly in a cross functional environment. Manage elevated risks/deteriorating situations to effective resolutions/workouts, etc.
Develop team's skills and knowledge to have a fully functional credit analysis and decision function.
Ensure effective communication. Work seamlessly in a cross functional environment. Proactively manage customer relationships (with customers from 3 business areas: Capital Markets, HCD, and Single Family.
Skills
5-10 years credit analysis and credit management experience with emphasis on financial institutions. Should be an industry expert in at least banking or mortgage banking and proficient in the others.
Demonstrated experience in making complex credit decisions and taking appropriate actions in difficult situations
Formal training in institutional credit analysis (e.g., completed a bank commercial lending or credit training program or equivalent.)
2 years or more experience in directly managing credit analysts with evidence of proficiency in coaching and developing analysts.
Experience of effectively communicating and negotiating with outside counterparties and internal officers and directors.
Proficiency in financial statement analysis, CPA or CFA preferred.
Strong written communications skills reflected in effective, concise and insightful credit analyses with the ability to coach others in these qualities.
Proficiency with financial research using quantitative methods and in methods for extracting information from large databases
Four-year college degree, M.B.A. or graduate degree in accounting, finance, computer science, or statistics preferred.
