Our client, a leading investment bank, have a new and urgent requirement in their Technology Group. This Group are responsible for managing technology infrastructure; supporting, maintaining and enhancing existing business systems; and delivering & deploying new systems, technologies and services.
They are critical to the way the wider group conducts business globally, as they provide each major business within the firm with a dedicated team that works closely with that business to understand its particular technology needs and deliver successfully to these.
The UNIX Systems Group currently have two requirements for a Senior and a Mid-career UNIX Engineer to join a dynamic team which designs, installs, and maintains a mission-critical leading-edge UNIX (Solaris) on Sun hardware infrastructure for the company in Asia.
In this role the successful applicant(s) will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and upgrade of UNIX servers and their associated storage and backup solutions, along with involvement in key deployment and engineering projects related to the platform.
Principle responsibilities for this hire include:
Unix system management.
Ownership and maintenance of associated storage and backup platforms.
Ongoing upgrade and maintenance of associated Sun hardware.
Working knowledge of maintaining Sybase databases on UNIX environments.
Maintaining relationships with the ISD Account Team and business users.
DR planning and testing.
System builds and development.
Technical project management of new initiatives.
Evaluation of new technologies.
Applicants should have demonstrable Unix System Administration experience. They must have initiative and be comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment, be able to perform under time pressure, be part of an on call roster and regularly work out of normal business hours. This role is ideal for self-starters who thrive off autonomy and who are adept at seizing opportunities. Ideally applicants will be qualified to degree level with proven experience in a customer support role.

Prepared to participate hands-on in the adds, moves and changes of the UNIX infrastructure and associated hardware
Participate in establishing and expanding Macquarie offices in Asia

Able to liaise with business groups and vendors about products, services and costs. Be able to summarise options based on benefits vs. risk vs. cost
Being able to offer consultancy to other teams within the region on UNIX based requirements
Assist with the controlling of cost relating to the UNIX environment
Customer-focused and have excellent communication skills
Able to see potential failures and react proactively
Minimum 10 years demonstrable knowledge in the following areas is essential:
Strong Solaris UNIX skills
Strong Sun hardware knowledge and associated hands-on skills
Capacity Planning, Performance Analysis and Incident Resolution
Disaster Recovery planning and execution
Legato Networker
Naming services - NIS, DNS, LDAP directory, QIP
Experience with directory and file systems
Demonstrable experience in the following areas is required:
Financial / Investment Banking industry
Veritas Clustering and replication products
EMC Clarion management
Unix email solutions
Experience in the following areas would be considered advantageous:
Sybase database management in a UNIX environment
Scripting, in Perl and Shell
